BOE fails to renew Tucker’s coaching supplement

The Fayette County Board of Education failed to approve the coaching and athletic director’s supplement for Waldon Tucker, Fayette County High School head football coach, during its June 7 meeting. Board Member Keith Madison was not in attendance at the beginning of the meeting due to a conflict with his work schedule.

 

BOE honors ‘Teachers of the Year’

The Fayette County Board of Education honored the valedictorians and salutatorians at each of the county schools, and also the "Teachers of the Year" prior to the start of its May 17 meeting, All board members were present for the meeting.

 

BOE transfers Nolen to FCHS guidance counselor



The Fayette County Board of Education transferred LeeAnn Nolen to the guidance counselor position at Fayette County High School during the board’s Dec. 14 meeting. All board members were present for the meeting. The guidance counselor position became vacant on Dec. 1 following the retirement of Heather Whitley. Nolen was transferred from history teacher at Fayette County High School to the guidance counselor position by the board.

BOE approves personnel changes, contracts

The Fayette County Board of Education held its Aug. 24 meeting in the school district’s courthouse annex boardroom. All board members were present for the meeting. The board accepted the resignation of Derek Price as custodian at Fayette County High School, effective Aug. 13. Employed by the board were Laurie Kalson as lunchroom worker at Fayette County High School, and Alexis Frost as teacher at Berry Elementary School. Both hires were effective Aug. 25.

The Fayette County Board of Education held a work session at Fayette Elementary School on Aug. 17 to discuss the opening of the school year during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. All board members except for John Aaron were in attendance. Several concerned parents, along with teachers and school administrators were also in attendance. Fayette County Superintendent of Education Jim Burkhalter opened the work session by telling the crowd, “I don’t know what a normal day is anymore.

 

BOE approves personnel items



The Fayette County Board of Education made several additional personnel changes prior to the beginning of the 2021-22 school year during its Aug. 2 meeting. Board President Tom Hubbert and Board Member Julie Stough were absent from the meeting, with all other board members present.

BOE hears audit report, approves personnel items

The Fayette County Board of Education approved numerous personnel changes and reviewed its public audit for fiscal year 2020 during its July 22 meeting. All members were present for the meeting, with the exception of Board Member Brenda Webb, who was absent due to the death of her mother. At the beginning of the meeting, Josh Taylor from the Alabama Examiners of Public Accounts reviewed the findings from the fiscal year 2020 audit.

Mims hired as Berry football coach



The Fayette County Board of Education hired Hunter Mims as the new football coach at Berry High School during its June 29 meeting. All board members were present for the meeting. A large group of personnel items were approved under a consent vote by the board, with three items removed from the group for individual consideration. One of the items considered separately was the Berry High School football coaching vacancy.

BOE approves personnel items



The Fayette County Board of Education approved several personnel items and contracts during its June 10 meeting. Board members Julie Stough and John Aaron were absent from the meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, Board President Tom Hubbert asked for a motion that all personnel items be approved or disapproved by one vote. He said that if any board member had an objection to one of the personnel items being considered as a group, it would be removed from the remainder of the items and considered separately.

The Fayette County Board of Education took action on several personnel and contract issues during its May 25 meeting. All board members with the exception of Keith Madison were present at the meeting. Before any business was conducted at the meeting, board member John Stowe made a motion to enter executive session to discuss a personnel issue involving “good name and character.” The motion was seconded by board member Brenda Webb and was approved unanimously.
