RELAY-FOR-LIFE SEEKS TEAM PARTICIPANTS

The American Cancer Society is calling all community members to participate in the annual Relay-for-Life of Fayette County. Last year, 2.7 million participants in the United States raised more than $279 million at more than 3,500 events to help the American Cancer Society attack cancer. The Sipsey Arts Alliance is a regional non-profit organization based in Fayette. The alliance’s mission is to promote public awareness of artists, craftsmen and makers as a valuable asset to our rural communities, and to provide voice and leadership through our support of working artists with programs, exhibits, classes, workshops and services that help foster an active environment for creating.

AARP TAX AIDE

The AARP Tax Aide volunteers will be preparing tax returns again this year at the Fayette Civic Center. We will prepare taxes each Friday from Feb. 2 until April 13 with the exception of Good Friday, March 30. Our hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Returns are done by appointment only. Please bring: your driver’s license, social security cards for everyone in your family, last year’s tax return, all tax related items and proof of medical insurance premiums. This service is free to the public.

TRI-COUNTY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION MEETING

The Tri-County Beekeepers Association (Fayette, Lamar and Marion counties) will meet Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the State Bank and Trust in Guin. This month’s topics are: “How to use a Refractometer to determine the moisture content of honey,” as demonstrated by Randall Carter; and the “Doolittle Method of Splitting Colonies,” as demonstrated by Jimmy Butler. Everyone is invited to join us and learn more about the fascinating world of honeybees.

WAYSIDE COMMUNITY CLUB QUARTERLY MEETING

The Wayside Community Club will have its quarterly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 at the Wayside Firehouse. A community meal starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by special music provided by the Crowe Family. Each family attending is asked to bring a vegetable and dessert to go with the baked ham, baked beans and drinks that will be provided by the community club. All members, visitors and politicians are invited to attend.

HUBBERTVILLE SCHOOL STEAK DINNER AND POLITICAL RALLY

The Hubbertville High School Athletic Department will sponsor a Steak Dinner and Political Rally on Friday, April 20. The event will be held in the high school gym. The steak dinner will begin at 4 p.m. with carry-outs available. Steak plates will cost $12 each. The political rally will begin at 6:30 p.m. Politicians will be given five minutes each to speak. Candidates exceeding five-minute time limit will be charged at a rate of $5 per minute. Please contact the school for additional information or to reserve plates.

BANKSTON/STOUGH VFD TRADE DAY

The annual Bankston/Stough Volunteer Fire Department Trade Day will be Saturday, April 21 at the Bankston VFD. There are no costs for yard sale set-ups. GLEN ALLEN CLEAN-UP DAY

Glen Allen will participate in the 2018 “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” spring clean-up on Saturday, April 21, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring gloves and other supplies will be furnished. A cookout luncheon will be provided for participants at noon. Sign-up in advance by April 10 at the Glen Allen Town Hall, Hubbertville School or Beth’s Trim and Tan for a free participant’s t-shirt.

‘MARCH FOR JESUS’ T-SHIRT SALE

Organizers for the annual “March for Jesus” rally are selling t-shirts for this year’s event. Orders will be taken through April 22 and are priced as follows: Youth Small through Adult XL will be $7 each and 2XL through 4XL will be $9 each. To order a t-shirt or for more information about this year’s March for Jesus, call (205) 932-6569. Fayette County’s 21st March for Jesus rally will be held Saturday, May 19.

KIRKLAND COMMUNITY CENTER POLITICAL RALLY

The Kirkland Community Center will host a Grilled Chicken Supper and Political Rally on Saturday, April 28. Plates will include grilled chicken, baked potato or sweet potato, green beans, tea and dessert. Plates are $10 for adults, and $6 for children, with carryouts available. Plates will be served from 4:30 until 6 p.m. The political rally will begin at 6 p.m. All political candidates are invited to attend.
