RELAY-FOR-LIFE SEEKS TEAM PARTICIPANTS

The American Cancer Society is calling all community members to participate in the annual Relay-for-Life of Fayette County. Last year, 2.7 million participants in the United States raised more than $279 million at more than 3,500 events to help the American Cancer Society attack cancer. HUBBERTVILLE SCHOOL’S HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SWAMP JOHN’S

Hubbertville School’s Habitat for Humanity will be selling Swamp John’s plates on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hubbertville School Pavilion. Plates are $11 each and proceeds will support the schools’ Habitat for Humanity efforts to build homes for those in need. Stop by for a plate as you attend Hubbertville’s baseball home opener.

ALABAMA COTTAGE FOOD LAW TRAINING PROGRAM

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Fayette County office will offer an Alabama Cottage Food Law Training Program on Thursday, March 1 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Fayette County Extension Office. Susan Hill, Regional Extension Agent for Food Quality and Safety and the instructor for the program, will tell where cottage food cannot be sold, what foods can be sold to the consumer, and what foods cannot be sold directly to the consumer. Learn the food safety rules, what steps you must take to legally sell prepared foods, and lots more. The cost of the class is $25.

PROGRESS CLUB II MISS FAYETTE COUNTY PAGEANT

The Progress Club II is sponsoring the fifth annual Miss Fayette County Pageant on Saturday, March 3 at the Fayette Civic Center, beginning at 2 p.m. Categories are Tiny Miss: Birth - 23 months and two - four years old, Little Miss: Kindergarten - second grade and third - fourth grades, Junior Miss: fifth - sixth grades and seventh - eighth grades, and Miss: ninth - 12th grades. LANDSCAPE WORKSHOP

Regional Extension Agent Tim Crow, with The Alabama Cooperative Extension, will host a Landscape Workshop on Tuesday, March 6 at the Fayette County Extension Office located at 650 McConnell Loop, Fayette. A variety of topics such as plant selection, care and maintenance, common problems and pruning techniques will be discussed. There will be time at the conclusion of the workshop for a question and answer segment on any topics not covered. The class will begin at 6 p.m. and is free to attend.

2018 FARMER’S MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM RECERTIFICATION TRAINING

The Fayette County Extension Office and the Alabama Farmer’s Market Authority will hold a 2018 Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program Recertification Training on Thursday, March 15, beginning at 9 a.m. This training is for growers who wish to sell at certified Farmer’s Markets. You will have the opportunity to get your Grower’s Permit that day in addition to recertifying or obtaining certification to be able to accept the SFMNP Vouchers as payment for produce you sell at certified farmer’s markets.

KIRKLAND-BLUFF-WAYSIDE VFD FUNDRAISER

The Kirkland-Bluff-Wayside Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual community fundraising event fro 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at the Kirkland Community Center. Plates will be sold consisting of catfish fillets/chicken fingers (two fillets of catfish/chicken fingers, hush puppies, fries, slaw, baked beans, dessert and a drink. Plates are $10 each or $6 for children 10 years old or younger. There will also be a cake walk beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for a raffle with three prizes: $300, $100, and $50 can also be purchased.

RELAY FOR LIFE CAKE WALK

There will be a Cake Walk at the Bankston-Stough Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, March 24 beginning at 5 p.m. The Cake Walk is sponsored by Imo’s Angels Relay for Life team. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society and this year’s Cake Walk is being held in memory of Mrs. Imo Jenkins. Your support of this worthy cause is greatly appreciated.

AARP TAX AIDE

Date
The AARP Tax Aide volunteers will be preparing tax returns again this year at the Fayette Civic Center. We will prepare taxes each Friday from Feb. 2 until April 13 with the exception of Good Friday, March 30. Our hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Returns are done by appointment only. Please bring: your driver’s license, social security cards for everyone in your family, last year’s tax return, all tax related items and proof of medical insurance premiums. This service is free to the public.
