Storm damage still being evaluated in county

In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 6, severe storms swept through Fayette County, leaving 85 roadways damaged with 13 still deemed impassable. According to the county engineering department, preliminary estimates put the repair costs at $434,250, though assessments are still ongoing.

The 13 roads are listed as follows: Blondie Road, Jud Cook Road, Morris Loop Road, Dodson Circle, Pender Road, Brasher Lane, Fords Valley Road, Fowler Road, Rabbit Road, Pikeville Road, Kirkland Road and Griffin Drive.

Mother and grandfather indicted by grand jury in case of missing toddler

A preliminary hearing for John and Wendy Bailey was scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at the Fayette County Courthouse. Reports indicate that John and Wendy Bailey were indicted by a grand jury. Charges are unknown at this time and a court date will be set at a later time.

Severe storms cause damage in county

In the early hours of Saturday, April 5, severe storms swept through Fayette County, leaving a trail of damage in their wake. High winds and heavy rain caused trees to fall, roadways to collapse and widespread flooding across the area. As a result, all Fayette County Schools were delayed two hours on Monday, April 7, due to impassable road conditions.

Parents concerned over relocation plans

On Monday, March 31, a meeting was held at the Berry High School gym to inform parents about the potential move of sixth-grade students from Berry Elementary School to the high school. 

Vehicle crash results in injury

On Tuesday, April 1, the Fayette Police and Fire Departments responded to a two-vehicle crash on Temple Ave. N., in front of Alabama Credit Union. According to the crash report, the driver of the log truck stated that he approached the 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo but was unable to stop in time, resulting in the collision. The driver of the log truck was transported by Fayette County EMS to Fayette Medical Center for further evaluation.

SEEDS Grant awarded to Fayette IDB

The Alabama Department of Commerce presented a check for $733,700 to the key partners in the SEEDS grant proposal at Fayette City Hall on Thursday, March 27. The funds will allow the purchase of land to establish the North Fayette Industrial Site. Multiple vehicle accident results in injury

On Friday, March 21, the Fayette Police and Fire Department responded to a multiple vehicle crash near the intersection of 2nd Ave. N.E. and Temple Ave N. According to the crash report, the driver of the Toyota BZ4X was trapped inside the vehicle. The fire department extracted the occupant from the vehicle, who was then transported to Fayette DCH for injuries. No other injuries were reported.
