Sheriff urges safety ahead of the holiday

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, local and state law enforcement agencies are reinforcing the importance of safety on Alabama’s roadways and waterways. To help ensure a safe holiday weekend, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is ramping up enforcement efforts. Sheriff Byron Yerby emphasizes the importance of safety by stating, “As citizens of Fayette County prepare to celebrate Memorial Day with friends and family, the sheriff’s office will be working overtime to ensure the safety of our citizens, We want everyone to have a fun and relaxing holiday, but we also want to remind everyone of the dangers of driving under the influence. Each year the sheriff’s office conducts high visibility details to protect and serve the citizens of Fayette County. Deputies will be conducting saturation details along with driver license checkpoints to deter reckless behavior.” Yerby and his staff wish Fayette County residents a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. “We want everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend, but safety is a priority,” Yerby said. “Let’s work together to protect our community and make responsible choices on the road.”
