Applications for SFMNP Program now being taken

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a federally funded program administered by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries’ Farmers Market Authority Section. The SFMNP provides eligible seniors with a $50 benefit card to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from certified farmers at farmers markets and farm stands in the State of Alabama.

Vote ALEA for the 2024 America’s Best-Looking Cruiser Contest

Each year, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) joins fellow highway patrol and state police agencies across the nation vying for the top spot in the American Association of State Troopers’ (AAST) “Best-Looking Cruiser” Contest. Photos are chosen through popular vote and placed in the AAST’s calendar.

Sales Tax Holiday this weekend

Governor Kay Ivey on Monday encouraged Alabamians to begin preparing for the upcoming academic year by participating in Alabama’s annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, held Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21. Items available for purchase and exempt from sales tax during the weekend include pencils, paper, binders, calculators, rulers and even computers, as well as school uniforms, gym suits and other types of clothing.

Warm weather brings out venomous snakes

The weather is quickly warming up and hibernation is over for Alabama’s 40-50 snake species. They’re now on the loose and looking for food and mates during spring and early summer. The end of March, April and May are when they’re most active, but they become nocturnal as the weather heats up during the day in the summer months.
