100th Birthday Celebration

Frances Carr celebrated her 100th birthday on July 27 at the Fayette Long-Term Care Facility in Fayette with family and friends. Her shirt expressed the sentiments of all her friends who were in attendance, stating; “Not everyone looks this good at 100.” Frances Carr is the oldest current member of McConnell Chapel AME Zion Church in Fayette. Sanders celebrates 100th birthday


State Representative Kyle South is shown presenting Gwen Sanders with a resolution from the Alabama House of Representatives in recognition of her 100th birthday. She also received a similar resolution from the Fayette County Commission.

Gwen Sanders celebrated her 100th birthday last week as many of her friends, former colleagues and former students dropped by to congratulate her on reaching this milestone. Sanders was born May 27, 1918 in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1936. She attended Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama), and started teaching after two years of college. She received her Bachelors degree from Florence and later received a Masters degree from The University of Alabama.
