SAMMY NEAL GRIMES

Funeral services for Mr. Sammy Neal Grimes, age 80 of Fayette, were held Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Noon from Rehobeth Baptist Church. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. Casey Watkins officiated. He died Sunday, June 1, at his residence.
Mr. Grimes graduated from Sumter County High School in 1964, and also served in the Army National Guard. He worked in several lumber mills and then retired after 40 years with Georgia Pacific as plant manager. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing golf, and spending time with family. He and his wife Linda loved to travel the nation shopping for antiques. He was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church where he served on the building and grounds committee. He helped many different projects on the church grounds while serving the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel J. Grimes;  mother, Annie Dill Grimes; brother, James Grimes; half brothers,Wilmer and Grady Grimes; and grandson, Russell Gann.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Grimes of Fayette; daughters, Trisha Strickland of Fayette and  Vicki Kimbrell (Mitch) of Birmingham; sister, Eleanor Fields (William) of Gainesville; four grandchildren, Brandon Kimbrell (Marina), Brooke Kimbrell (Nick), Justin Lahay (Ashleigh and Alana Gurley (Dylan); four great-grandchildren, Riley Brookes, Oliver Gurley, Ravyn Lahay and Luke Brothers; and one great-grandchild on the way, Kayce Gurley.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Rehobeth Baptist Church, Hospice of North West Alabama,present and past employees of former Georgia Pacific and  very special caregiver, Sarita Richardson.
Active pallbearers were Wayne Bolton, Wayne Daley, Sammy Crowley, Phillip Stricklan, Jeff Hollingsworth and Ray Selman.
