UPDATE: On Monday, Dec. 9, Steven Bradley Collins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead while at the hospital, according to ALEA.
ORIGINAL: A single-vehicle crash on Sunday morning has claimed the life of a 2- year-old Jasper toddler. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred around 10:24 a.m. on Dec. 8, when the 2020 Toyota Tacoma left the roadway and struck a tree. Reports show the toddler, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Steven B. Collins, 40, of Jasper, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Collins was taken to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital (UAB) for treatment. A second passenger, Wendy J. Bailey, 22, also of Jasper, was injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital. Reports indicate Bailey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The crash occurred on Co. Rd. 73 near Morris Cemetery Road, about two miles south of Glen Allen. ALEA is investigating the incident and no further information is available at this time.
