The Fayette County Republican Party will open qualifying for prospective candidates on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, and qualifying will close on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at 5 p.m.  Applications can be obtained and fees paid at the Tuesday, Jan. 13 party meeting located at the Fayette Civic Center at 7 p.m.  If candidates wish to qualify before or after the meeting, please contact the county chairman at (205) 303-9442 to obtain an application and pay fees.  Fees for part-time elected positions are $250 and full-time elected positions are $500.

Mt. Joy Missionary Baptist Church, 251 Mt. Joy Rd., Fayette, will celebrate Deacons and Trustees Day on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m. The guest pastor and church will be Rev. Alex Johnson along with the Old Canaan Baptist Church in Fayette. Dinner will be served before the program.

The Belk Community Club held at the Belk Community Center will not meet in December. Everyone has so many events in December, the meeting will resume in January.

The Fayette Art Museum/ Civic Center would like to invite everyone to the 19th Annual Festival of Trees, from Dec. 1 until Jan. 2. For group tour reservations or other times, contact Glenda at (205) 932-8727 or email the museum at fayetteartmuseum@ yahoo.com.  They are open to the public Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission is free. 

Church services are now being held every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Fayette Housing Authority community center on Sixth Street. Rev. Robert Freeman presiding.

Women’s AA will now meet on Thursdays at 9 a.m. at The Loft. Sometimes, women aren’t comfortable discussing all of their issues in the presence of men. Here is a safe place, the Pink Serenity Group of AA. Private entrance behind The Loft.
