Funeral services for Mr. Billy Joe Wright, age 79 of Fayette, were held Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial  followed in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. He died Sunday, Feb. 19, at Fayette Medical Center.
Mr. Wright was a Vietnam Veteran who enjoyed gardening and fishing. He loved his church and his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Laura Walden Wright; brothers, James Darrell Wright, Dale Wright and Loyd Wright; brother-in-law, Clyde Smith; sons, Gene Strickland and James Strickland; grandson, Ryan Rood; and great-grandson, John Michael Rood.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie Wright of Fayette; son, Joe Strickland of Fayette; daughter, Tammie Rood of Miss.; brothers, Edward Wright  and Byron Wright (Doris), all  of Miss. and Alton Wright (Bonnie) of Fayette; sisters, Karen Little (Tommy) of Fayette and Jean Smith of Northport; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearer was  Houston Rood. Active pallbearers were Cole Bruce, Blake Rood, Marvin Lolley, Deron Lacey, Grady Peoples and Michael Little.
Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directed.
