DIANNE YERBY
Funeral services for Mrs. Dianne Yerby, age 79, were held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023 at 3 p.m. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Randy Atkinson officiated. She died on Thursday, Jan. 26, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Dianne was born on May 10, 1943 to Hobert and Juanita Spruiell Scott. She married Herschel Yerby on June 4, 1961. She was a 1961 graduate of Sulligent High School and later attended Jefferson State and UAB.
Dianne enjoyed traveling. Her favorite trip was always the next one; it didn’t much matter where it was to. She was interested in history and current events and was always quick to offer her take. She liked to spend summer weekends laying in the sun, reading on the pier and watching for turtles. She liked good food. She amassed a trove of clothing, shoes, and jewelry and made a habit of continually adding to it. She was a faithful and dutiful member of Hillview Baptist Church and cared dearly for the church and its members.
Dianne loved her family deeply and openly. Above all else, Dianne was MeMaw. She was MeMaw not only to her grandchildren and family, but to their friends and classmates too. Seemingly everyone of a certain age in Fayette or Cullman knew MeMaw. She had recently become, as she would certainly have you know, MeMaw to two great-grandchildren.
She was a talker who never met a stranger. She was a character. She was something.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jeff.
She is survived by her husband Herschel, of Mount Olive; her daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Mike Freeman of Fayette; daughter-in-law, Shara Yerby of Cullman; grandchildren, Zack Freeman (Austyn), Madi McCool (Logan), Hannah Yerby and Dalton Yerby; and great-grandchildren Andy Freeman and Elzie McCool.
