JERRY OLIVE
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Olive,age 85 of Bankston, were held Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at 3 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery. He died Thursday, Oct. 17, at his residence.
Jerry was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Berry, the eldest son of Ritzhugh and Oline Olive. After graduating from Berry High School, he moved to Birmingham and was employed by A&P Grocery for 30 years. It was there he met his future wife, Mary Cannon. After A&P closed, he was employed with Western Supermarket for 20 years before he retired. An active member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Birmingham, he would go on to serve as the volunteer Music Director at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Bankston, where he would play the piano and lead music until he was no longer physically able to continue. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the time of the Cuban Missle Crisis.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Cannon Olive; a son, Dean Olive; a daughter, Elise Olive Hodges (Morris); two grandsons, Chase Olive and Jacob Hodges; great grandson, Slade Olive; two brothers, Don Olive (Gaynell) and Lynn Olive (Kathy); and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Morris Hodges, Jacob Hodges, Chase Olive, Jeremy Morris, Randall Dozier and Logan Reynolds.
