ORMAN J. “O.J.” HOWTON  

Funeral services for Mr. Orman J. “O.J.” Howton, age 79, of Fayette, were held Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 2 p.m., at Fayette Church of Christ with Kaleb Hall officiating. Burial followed at Fayette Memorial Gardens. Mr. Howton died Monday, June 3 at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ola Howton; and brother, Larry Howton.
Orman was a lifelong resident of Fayette. He graduated from Fayette County High School in 1958. He was drafted for his service in December of 1963. Orman married Mammie in December of 1966 and they were married for 52 years. He worked full time for the Alabama Army National Guard for over 30 years until he retired from the military in 1994. To help his kids with college expenses, he worked in the office of Arvin Automotive until the plant closed. Mr. Howton was a member of Fayette Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Mammie Sanford Howton of Fayette; daughter, Cassandra Leigh Howton (Sandy) of Sheridan, Ark.; son, Dr. Russell Warren Howton of Jasper; sisters, Jewel Tate of Fayette, Kathleen Robinson of Winfield, and Dora Hobson of Duncanville; sisters-in-law, Nerlean Howton and Eva Nell Terry of Fayette; brothers, John Gilbert Howton (Shirley) of Trussville, William Howton (Janice) of Florence, and Billy Joe Howton (Vicki) of Fayette. Pallbearers were Greg Howton, Jeremy Howton, Chad Terry, Jason Howton, Vick Selman, Lamar Helms, Shawn Campbell, and Chris Sanford.
Honorary pallbearers were the retired military VFW breakfast group.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fayette Church of Christ or Davita Dialysis in Fayette.
Norwood-Wyatt Chapel of Fayette directed.
