The Balfour Award, the only award given to a senior at Fayette County High School during graduation, was presented last Friday night to Celie Cowart by FCHS Principal Jennifer Sanford.
Local area high schools will celebrate graduation this week. Berry will hold its graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m., while Hubbertville’s graduation will be Thursday, May 18 at 8 p.m. The graduation for Fayette County High School will be Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m.
Graduation night is a memorable occasion for any high school senior, but the night was even more special for these two Berry graduates. Immediately after the graduation ceremony ended, Julius Johnson dropped to one knee and asked Katelyn Beathard to marry him. The reaction of the crowd and the smiles on the couple’s faces told the rest of the story: She said “Yes!”
When Derrick Mills finished Fayette County High School in 1996, he did what many young high school graduates do; he left Fayette for college seeking bigger and better things. But Mills never forgot where he came from, and last Friday night, he returned to prove his love for his hometown. Mills delivered the commencement address at Fayette’s graduation, then delivered on a promise he had made to himself long ago – a promise to help others as he had been helped throughout the years.
Students from Berry, Fayette and Hubbertville recently celebrated their long-awaited high school graduations.
High schools in Fayette County have set their graduation dates for this school year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, special guidelines and regulations will be followed at each school.
The Fayette County Board of Education announced graduation dates for seniors at Fayette County schools during its May 12 meeting. Board Member Tim Fields was absent from the meeting, with all other board members in attendance. The tentative schedule for graduation is as follows: • Berry High School - Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. • Hubbertville School - Friday, June 5 at 7 p.m. • Fayette County High School - Thursday, June 11 at 8 p.m. All graduations are scheduled to be held in the schools’ football stadiums in an effort to abide by COVID-19 guidelines.
As part of Fayette Middle School’s commitment to prepare students for the adventures and rigor that high school brings, the eighth grade teachers and Principal Rodney Hannah have decided to begin the tradition of holding an eighth grade graduation ceremony at Fayette Middle School each May. While the eighth grade graduation will be an exciting event for our students, we understandably find it necessary to implement eligibility requirements for all eighth graders who wish to participate in this end-of-the-year activity.
