Stoker named new Fayette EMA Director


Michael Stoker is the new Fayette County EMA Director.

Michael Stoker, a lifelong resident of Fayette County, began his new job as Fayette County’s Emergency Management Director on Monday, April 10. Stoker is a 1991 graduate of Fayette Academy, and has served the county for the past 31 years as an Emergency Medical Technician.

 

Fayette County updates Hazard Mitigation Plan



The revised Fayette County Hazard Mitigation Plan is being finalized and will soon be submitted to local municipalities and the Fayette County Commission for adoption. Fayette County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Russ Taylor said that the plan is a requirement of the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, and must be updated every five years in order to maintain eligibility for certain federal disaster assistance and mitigation funds.

 

Fayette EMA announces new Mass Notification System



Russ Taylor, Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director for Fayette County, announced the start of a new Mass Notification System for Fayette County residents. Taylor said that the system was activated for Fayette County on Dec. 1. He said his department was able to fully fund the system’s cost with a grant through Homeland Security.

Fayette County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Russ Taylor recently completed the educational requirements and training to receive the designation of Advanced Level Emergency Manager. To become an Advanced Level Emergency Manager, Taylor had to complete 700 hours of core curriculum coursework and 300 hours of management-related training.

 

City Council considers aquatic center’s requests

The Fayette City Council heard a report from Chris Champion, Fayette Aquatic Center director, during its March 13 meeting. All council members were in attendance, with Fayette Mayor Ray Nelson absent. President Pro Tem Cedric Wilson presided over the meeting during the absence of Nelson.
