The City of Fayette’s cleanup day that was postponed last Saturday because of rain has been rescheduled for this Saturday, May 1. The clean-up is a project of Alabama’s PALS (People Against a Littered State). The Town of Glen Allen also had a clean-up scheduled for last Saturday that was postponed. Glen Allen Mayor Allen Dunavant said a decision would be made at the town’s May council meeting concerning the rescheduling of its clean-up event.

The City of Fayette and the Town of Glen Allen will hold municipal clean-up this Saturday, April 24. The clean-ups are part of Alabama’s month-long PALS (People Against a Littered State) project. The Town of Glen Allen’s clean-up will begin with a safety briefing at the Town Hall at 8:30 a.m. Teams will then travel through the town of Glen Allen to pick-up trash.
The Fayette clean-up will begin at 9 a.m at Fayette City Hall. Police Chief Danny Jenkins will give a short presentation to the workers concerning safety before the clean-up activities begin.

John and Doris Brasher, along with a few female inmates from the jail at the Fayette County Sheriff’s office, recently picked up several hundred pounds of garbage that had previously lined the streets of Fayette. Doris Brasher said they concentrated on covering the city limits of Fayette, with some additional garbage pickup in the city’s police jurisdiction. During a nine-day cleanup effort, more than 1,100 five gallons buckets of trash was collected.

A total of 52 people participated in the annual Glen Allen “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” clean-up day on Saturday, April 21. Glen Allen Mayor Allen Dunavant said that the crowd was smaller than usual due to the Hubbertville Park Day being held at the same time, but he said the clean-up campaign was a success.
