After two weeks of extreme water outages, the Boley, Flatwoods and Alta communities are finally getting some relief from an on-going problem with the Oakman Water Works. The problem began on Sunday, Jan. 14, and for two weeks, residents of those and other areas of Fayette and Walker counties had to haul water to their homes for flushing toilets and pick up bottled water for cooking and drinking. They also had to find alternate means to wash clothes and take baths.

After days of water leaks and shortages, the Glen Allen Water System appears to be back operating at full capacity. Glen Allen Mayor Allen Dunavant said that the problems started during the extremely cold weather this area experienced during the Christmas holidays. He said that with temperatures dipping down below 10 degrees at times and staying below freezing for several consecutive hours, they began getting calls at City Hall from customers who were without water.
