City Council covers reports, community updates

The Fayette City Council met March 10 at City Hall to review departmental reports, hear updates from city officials and approve several items of business. Mayor Rod Northam and council members began the meeting with an invocation by Barrie Lowe and the Pledge of Allegiance before approving minutes from the council’s Feb. 24 regular meeting. Council member Mickey Joe Morgan was absent, all other members were present. Fayette Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Emily Montague addressed the council to share updates and invite the public to an upcoming chamber luncheon scheduled for April 8 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Fayette Civic Center. Montague said the luncheon will focus on developing a community calendar that allows organizations to coordinate events and avoid scheduling conflicts. She also shared highlights from a recent visit by members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute from the University of Alabama, who toured several Fayette businesses and attractions. “They just raved about our little town,” Montague said, noting visitors commented on how welcoming the community was during their visit.
