This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first and only state football championship for the Fayette County High School Tigers. The Tigers had gotten close to making the championship game before 1996. When Coach Waldon Tucker’s oldest son Lance was a freshman quarterback at Fayette in 1989, the team made it to the semifinals before losing a game. In 1990 and 1991, the Tigers again lost in the semifinals. In Lance Tuckers’ senior year, the Tigers made it to the quarterfinals, and again in 1993. In 1994, the Tigers suffered a rare losing season with a 4-7 record. They rebounded a little in 1995 to post a 6-5 record.
