An inmate who escaped from the Alabama Department of Corrections was sentenced in March 2020 in Fayette County Circuit Court. Ricky Lavon Lay, 39, left his assigned work location in Bayou La Batre in Mobile County at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.
Fayette County Sheriff Byron Yerby announced that the third of three juveniles missing from the Fayette County START rehabilitation program was found safe on June 11 in Panama City, Fla.
A Fayette County Jail inmate who escaped work release custody in July has been sentenced to serve 20 years in custody. Daniel Wayne Beard, 36, escaped custody with the assistance of a woman who picked him up at Fayette County High School on July 12. Beard was among a group of inmates on work release who cleaned the school over summer break.
Two escaped female inmates from the Fayette County jail were quickly returned to custody after escaping on Sunday, Dec. 23. Deputy Barry Corkren said that Carol Ann Eaton, 34, of 588 Northam Rd., Vernon, and Julie Burrage Miller, 39, of 1144 Co. Rd. 101, Fayette, escaped on Dec. 23 at approximately 5:30 - 6 p.m.
