The 25th annual Frog Level Festival & Cruise In kicks off this Friday, Oct. 3, bringing live music, classic cars and community festivities to downtown Fayette. The festival will kick off at 4 p.m. with live music featuring Curtis Williams, followed by Alabama Street at 5:30 p.m., Handshake Promise at 7 p.m. and The Velcro Pygmies at 9 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the excitement continues bright and early at 8 a.m. with a Car Show and Cruise In. Enjoy performances by the Bama Dancers at 9 a.m., and don’t miss the Frog Jumping Contest at 10 a.m.

The Fayette City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at city hall, with all members present. Stephen Fulmer led the meeting with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Local law enforcement and other members of the community gathered in Fayette for the Crisis Response and Intervention Training held Sept. 15–19. Hosted by the Fayette Police Department and presented by the Tuscaloosa Police Behavioral Intervention Team and the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center, the 40-hour course equipped participants with skills in mental illness recognition, de-escalation strategies and communication techniques.

The 55th annual Fayette Arts Festival drew in large crowds to the Fayette Civic Center and Art Museum on Saturday, Sept. 13. Visitors from all over browsed a variety of handmade crafts and artwork, ranging from pottery and paintings to jewelry and lures. Food trucks and local vendors were also onsite serving up comfort foods and sweet treats throughout the day.

Unofficial results from Tuesday’s municipal runoff election, held Sept. 23, show Micky Joe Morgan leading in Ward 2 with 107 votes (57.84 percent), followed by Rodney Hannah with 78 votes (42.16 percent).

A canvassing of the election results is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30 at noon at Fayette City Hall.

Fayette Police Chief Danny Jenkins is warning residents about bills labeled as “movie prop money” that may be circulating in the city. A local business received the bill pictured above and reported it to the police department. Residents and business owners are urged to carefully inspect cash before accepting it.

The Fayette City Council held a public hearing prior to its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at city hall. Fayette Junior City Council Mayor Sean White opened the meeting with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Fayette City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at city hall, with all members present except for Councilman Tommy Williams. Luke Porter led the meeting with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilman Jerry Nichols.

The City of Fayette held a meeting at Fayette City Hall on Tuesday, June 10, to get input from citizens concerning the Main Street Alabama program. Fayette is currently a network community, but is interested in applying for full Main Street designation in the future. Mariah Montgomery, a program development specialist for Main Street Alabama, presented information about the organization during the meeting.
