DAVID GRAYSON

Funeral services for Mr. David Grayson, age 75 of Fayette, were held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Fayette Memorial Gardens.
David Warren Grayson was born November 10, 1948, at home and died at his residence on October 2, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.L. and Mattie Grayson and his o oldest brother, Troy Lee Grayson, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita Boyett Grayson; two daughters, Katie Grayson Hackney (Robert) of Tuscaloosa and Jessica Warren Grayson (Greg Ikner) of Vestavia Hills; brother, John Randall Grayson (Tammy) of Huntsville; and Wanda Grayson Price (Mitch) of Sulligent; as well as nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Joanna, Kristi, Bobby, Emily, Ellen and Laura Beth.
David was a 1967 graduate of Aliceville High School and, according to legend, was a stellar football player. He spent most of his time as an offensive tackle, but he loved when he could play defense and knock a few people down. He spent his childhood  and summers working with his hands on the farm along side his brothers and men who he would grow to tell the funniest stories about. He went on to play football at The University of Alabama under Bear Bryant (and a semester at Marion Military Institute).
After finishing college with a business degree, he went back to work on the farm with his dad. He met his wife in March of 1974 and they were married in November of that year. He went on to graduate from pharmacy school at Auburn University and ultimately settled in Fayette at Harco.
He became a father in 1983 to his daughter, Katie, and again in 1987 to Jessica. He became a grandfather in 2017 and went on to have three grandsons (Warren Jett, William Jones and David Owen) and he was the best baby holder, train builder and fort builder. He was a hard worker, loved his farm and took any change he had to plant a green field, bush hog or spend time in a shooting house or tree stand. The farm was probably his favorite place with his second favorite being the kitchen. David believed that food was an experience that should be shared and enjoyed from preparation to plate building and eating.
He was a steady figure in the lives of his wife and daughters and served as their pharmacist, listener, jar opener and fixer of all things. He was effortlessly brilliant and could read a newspaper from cover to cover and simultaneously read three books. he loved recipes, flashlights, salt, tractors and kitchen tools and unsweetened tea with a bowl of lemon to start and a glass of milk with his meal. There is a David sized home left in the hearts of those who loved him-and if you ever met him, you’d know that’s a pretty big hole. He was kind and just and there was no one he loved more than his girls (Rita, Katie and Jessica) or his grandsons (Jett, Jones and David Owen). He was deeply loved and cherished and was never allowed to leave or say goodbye without a hug. Until we can hold you again, we love you Dad.
