Chapman is still doing her best with what she’s got

Nell Chapman is shown displaying one of her quilt-embordered shirts and the ribbons that she has won at art and crafts festivals.

Nell Bailey Chapman said that she was born in Fayette County and attended the former Kirkland Junior High School through the fourth grade until her parents moved to Aberdeen, Miss. Due to her father finding work in an ammunition factory during the war. She said that her family was poor, but she added that she learned a very important lesson early in life from her frugal mother. Her mother’s motto was, “Do the best you can with what you’ve got.”
