Former Fayette mayor and longtime Fayette County High School band director Jerry Bobo passed away on Sunday, June 9 at Fayette Medical Center. He was 83 years old.
Bobo graduated from Fayette County High School in 1953 and attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Million Dollar Band under the direction of the legendary Colonel Carleton Butler. When he was a senior at Alabama in 1956, Butler and Fayette County High School principal John Morgan Brown approached Bobo and offered him the band director job at Fayette County High School. Although he was still a student at the university, Bobo accepted the job while finishing his degree at Alabama.
