On Tuesday, March 4, the Berry Fire Department, along with the assistance of the Boley Fire Department, responded to several storm-related incidents, including downed power lines and trees obstructing roadways. Fire Chief Randall Kelley explained that high winds prior to the storm caused trees to fall, which brought down power lines and ignited a grass fire. Fayette County EMA Director Michael Stoker reported many cases of fallen trees and power lines across the county.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Fayette Fire Department responded to a single vehicle fire on Hwy 159. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

On Friday, Feb. 28, the owner of a 2500 HD Chevrolet truck was driving down the road when he said he smelled smoke. He stated that the flames began erupting from the front end. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The Fayette County Board of Education met on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Fayette County High School library. District Four Board Member Brenda Webb called the meeting to order with all board members in attendance. The meeting began with a prayer led by District One Board Member John Aaron followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by District Six Board Member Portia Stowe.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, around 9 a.m., Fayette Police received reports of a possible break-in at Caines Ridge Church on Hwy 159. According to Police Chief Danny Jenkins, no items were taken, but a pallet was found inside, which was believed to have been used for someone to sleep and escape the cold. 

In 2011, Fayette County native Patsy Holliman Auiler’s life dramatically changed after she traveled with family members to a safari camp in the Masai Mara area of Kenya, East Africa.

The Fayette County Commission held its regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, at the Courthouse Annex Building. The meeting began with a prayer led by District One Commissioner Brad Cox, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Fayette varsity girls competed in an area tournament at Hamilton on Wednesday, Feb. 5, defeating Haleyville, 49-39.

On Feb. 5, The Fayette County varsity boys were victorious in an area tournament against Haleyville, 48-43. However, on Saturday, Feb. 8, the Tigers faced a narrow defeat against Fultondale, losing 46- 45.

Fayette residents are expressing growing concerns about their utility bills amid extreme cold temperatures. Many fear that the cold weather will lead to significant increases in their upcoming utility costs.
