Woods, Brinyark announce $5 million Career and Technical Education Grant for Fayette Co. Schools

State Sen. Matt Woods and State Rep. Bryan Brinyark announced today that the Fayette County Board of Education has been awarded a $5 million grant to expand career and technical education opportunities for local students. The grant was made possible through a $150 million legislative appropriation that established a statewide grant program to expand career and technical education and workforce training in Alabama’s K-12 schools. Fayette County does not currently have a standalone career and technical education school. This investment, combined with a partnership between Fayette County Schools and Bevill State Community College, will help ensure that local students have access to training and industry-recognized credentials in high-wage, high-demand skilled trades. “Preparing our young people for the jobs that are in demand today, and the careers that will be needed well into the future is one of the most important investments we can make,” said Woods, who represents Senate District 5. “This $5 million grant will create new opportunities for Fayette County students to earn valuable credentials and move directly into rewarding careers, often with little or no college debt. It will also strengthen our ability to recruit new industry. When a company considers locating in Fayette County, it needs to know that skilled workers will be available and that its employees’ children will have excellent educational options leading to successful careers. This investment helps us answer both of those questions with confidence.”
