Fayette County Comission

The Fayette County Commission approved an extended warranty on a piece of county road equipment and discussed restricting through-truck traffic on County Road 21 South during its Aug. 10 meeting. All commissioners were present except Shane Hughes. The commission approved minutes from its July 27 meeting before approving $22,505.91 in claims for the period. Of that amount, $17,594.73 was attributed to the county’s General Fund. The commission approved its annual contract with the Alabama Department of Youth Services related to the detention of juveniles who have been charged with offenses.

The Fayette County Commission approved a change to one polling location, renewed its annual school resource officer agreement and received updates on road projects during its regular meeting Monday, July 27. Commissioner Wesley Jacobs was absent. All other members were present. Following approval of the agenda, minutes and claims totaling $47,329.56, the commission addressed several items of new business. At the request of Probate Judge Mike Freeman, commissioners unanimously approved relocating the polling place for Precinct 159 from Palestine Church to Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

The Fayette County Commission approved the purchase of two replacement tractors and authorized the sale of surplus equipment during a brief special called meeting on Monday,  July 6. All commission members were present except Commissioner David Hubbert. Commission Chairman Mike Freeman said the meeting was called following discussion at the commission’s previous meeting regarding the need to replace equipment used by the county’s road department.

The Fayette County Commission recognized the 2026 Class 1A State Champion Hubbertville Lions baseball team and received updates on road projects and state funding during its June 8 meeting. Before beginning regular business, commissioners presented a formal resolution honoring the Lions for capturing the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A State Championship. Commission Chairman Mike Freeman praised the team and the Hubbertville community for its continued success and strong support of student-athletes.

The Fayette County Commission met April 13 with Commissioner David Hubbert presiding in the absence of Chairman Mike Freeman. Commissioner Wesley Jacobs was also absent. Commissioners approved the meeting agenda and claims, which included expenses for animal control, reappraisal and more than $133,000 in road construction. During discussion of claims, commissioners briefly questioned recurring charges related to weather sirens and routine maintenance items, though no action was taken.

he Fayette County Commission met Feb. 23 for its regular scheduled meeting, chaired by Commission Chairman Mike Freeman. All commissioners were present except Brad Cox. The meeting opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before commissioners turned to a special recognition honoring the late Sammy Hindman, a longtime Fayette County resident known for his agricultural leadership and community involvement. Family members were present as the commission presented a formal resolution recognizing Hindman’s contributions to agriculture, civic organizations, and community development.

The Fayette County Commission handled routine business during its Feb. 9 meeting, including board appointments, approval of claims and authorization to apply for grant funding. Chairman Mike Freeman called the meeting to order and opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were present except Wesley Jacobs. Commissioners approved $7,929.07 in claims for the period, with expenses spread across several funds including the general fund, health tax fund, Alabama Trust Fund, reappraisal fund and road construction. Minutes from the previous meeting were also approved.

The Fayette County Commission approved a waste management contract renewal, supported a proposed property tax freeze for senior citizens and authorized a grant application benefiting local senior centers during its Jan. 27 meeting, which had been rescheduled due to inclement weather. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Commissioner David Hubbard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were present.
