Fayette County Comission

The Fayette County Commission recognized the 2026 Class 1A State Champion Hubbertville Lions baseball team and received updates on road projects and state funding during its June 8 meeting. Before beginning regular business, commissioners presented a formal resolution honoring the Lions for capturing the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A State Championship. Commission Chairman Mike Freeman praised the team and the Hubbertville community for its continued success and strong support of student-athletes.

The Fayette County Commission met April 13 with Commissioner David Hubbert presiding in the absence of Chairman Mike Freeman. Commissioner Wesley Jacobs was also absent. Commissioners approved the meeting agenda and claims, which included expenses for animal control, reappraisal and more than $133,000 in road construction. During discussion of claims, commissioners briefly questioned recurring charges related to weather sirens and routine maintenance items, though no action was taken.

he Fayette County Commission met Feb. 23 for its regular scheduled meeting, chaired by Commission Chairman Mike Freeman. All commissioners were present except Brad Cox. The meeting opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before commissioners turned to a special recognition honoring the late Sammy Hindman, a longtime Fayette County resident known for his agricultural leadership and community involvement. Family members were present as the commission presented a formal resolution recognizing Hindman’s contributions to agriculture, civic organizations, and community development.

The Fayette County Commission handled routine business during its Feb. 9 meeting, including board appointments, approval of claims and authorization to apply for grant funding. Chairman Mike Freeman called the meeting to order and opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were present except Wesley Jacobs. Commissioners approved $7,929.07 in claims for the period, with expenses spread across several funds including the general fund, health tax fund, Alabama Trust Fund, reappraisal fund and road construction. Minutes from the previous meeting were also approved.

The Fayette County Commission approved a waste management contract renewal, supported a proposed property tax freeze for senior citizens and authorized a grant application benefiting local senior centers during its Jan. 27 meeting, which had been rescheduled due to inclement weather. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Commissioner David Hubbard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were present.

The Fayette County Commission addressed animal shelter sanitation concerns and long-term road and bridge funding challenges during its meeting Jan. 12, highlighting both immediate public health issues and ongoing infrastructure shortfalls. The meeting opened with a prayer led by Commissioner Brad Cox, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All members except Commissioner Wesley Jacobs were in attendance. Chairman Mike Freeman called the meeting to order and began with public comment.

The Fayette County Commission held a meeting on Monday, July 14, at the courthouse annex building. The meeting began with a prayer led by District Three Commissioner David Hubbert, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Commission Chairman Mike Freeman called the meeting to order with all commissioners present except for District One Commissioner Brad Cox. At the start of the meeting, Freeman recognized Ben Snipes, who was recently hired as the County Engineer. 

The Fayette County Commission held a work session on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Courthouse Annex Building. All commissioners were present except for District One’s Brad Cox and District Four’s Wesley Jacobs.

On Monday, July 22, the Fayette County Commission held its regular meeting at the Lawrence Mill Community Center, hosted by District Three Commissioner David Hubbert. The meeting commenced with Hubbert leading with prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All commissioners were present and introduced themselves and each district they represent.
