Christine Shepard Grizzell

CHRISTINE GRIZZELL

Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Shepard Grizzell, age 91, of Fayette, were held Friday, Dec. 5, 2025 from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Scott Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Fayette City Cemetery. Mrs. Grizzell died peacefully in Fayette Medical Center Long Term Care Wednesday, December 3, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on December 24, 1933, Christine was a Christmas Eve gift whose warmth, compassion, and spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She was the devoted mother of four daughters, proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, and delighted great-grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren. Her family was her heart, and she poured love into every generation.
Christine was preceded in death by her loving parents, Verda and Emmett Shepard, her sister, Hazel Salak, her brother, Rayford Shepard, and father of her girls, Bob Grizzell.
She is survived by her four daughters: Marilyn Butler (John) of Auburn, Robbie Hindman (David) of Fayette, Karen Thompson (William) of Fayette, and Kathy Warren of Fayette. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Matthew Butler (Teigha), Michael Butler, Rob Hindman, Zac Hindman (Keri), Will Thompson (Amy), Becky Thompson Reed (Heath), Brad Burroughs (Whitley), and Ethan Sherman, along with her thirteen beloved great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.
A retired dental hygienist, Christine cared for others with skill and a smile. Her creativity shone through in her love of sewing—crafting beautiful pieces for both her family and the public. Her handiwork was admired and often worn with pride.
Before her health issues worsened, Christine was a faithful member of Fayette First Baptist Church, where she lived out her faith among lifelong friends.
In recent years, she enjoyed socializing with her close-knit group of friends at LTC known fondly as The Clique. She loved reading, working puzzles, playing bingo, and cheering on Alabama football. Above all, she cherished time with her family—cooking her famous chicken dressing, searching for treasures at yard sales, sharing laughter around a spirited game of Rook, and cuddling babies, which brought her joy.
Christine leaves behind a legacy of love, and devotion. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were her caregivers at FMCLTC, The Clique: Dessiree Wright, Mammie Lou Burns, and Robert Avant, her church family and Dr. Martha Jo Christian. Dr. Christian’s compassionate and professional care for her the past 25 years has been greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in her memory at the Fayette County Memorial Library.
Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directed.
