JAMES M. “JOHN” BRASHER
Funeral services for Mr. James “John” Brasher, age 87 of Fayette, were held Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 3 p.m. from Norwood-Wyatt Chapel. Burial followed in Rehobeth Baptist Church Cemetery. He died Tuesday, April 22, at Fayette Medical Center.
James M. “John” Brasher born January 2, 1938. He was a dedicated and loving husband, dad, PawPaw and friend. John dedicated his life to serving his community and the town he loved dearly. From landscaping the “Y”, Christmas At The Park, train rides at Frog Level and the March for Jesus, and working with the Fayette County inmates to beautify the city of Fayette, he found joy in serving others, giving back to his community and making it a beautiful place.
Throughout his life he received many recognitions and awards for his accomplishments. He created The Brasher Women’s Ministry with the Sheriff County Inmates for 13 years, won fourth place Shaklee in the nation, the city of Fayette declared August 29, 2010, John & Doris Day, VFW of the United States, Chamber of Commerce citizen of the year, Garden Club Member of the Year for the state, deep south, and nation as well as many other wonderful achievements.John never met a stranger, he made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, and left his mark throughout the city of Fayette ensuring that his legacy will be felt for years to come.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Brasher; grandson, Austin Brasher; great grandchild, Kennedy Madison; his parents, C.C. “Shorty” and Eunice Hubbert Brasher; two sisters, Linda Smith and Sue Davis; brothers Jake, Tommy, Dale, Max, Jerry and Billy Ray Brasher; and son in law, Tim Dennis.
He is survived by his spouse, Doris Harkness Brasher; daughter, Pam Brasher Dennis; daughter-in-law, Pamela Ray Brasher; sister, Shirley Gladden (George); grandchildren, Lauren (Samuel) Wakefield, Lindsey Hoggle and Jennifer Madison (Matthew); great grandchildren, Will and Hallie Wakefield, Raleigh Hoggle, Blaine and Drayton Madison.
Pallbearers will be Max Brasher, Dale Brasher Jr., Allen Brasher, Bart Brasher, Samuel Wakefield and Matthew Madison.
