Mr. William “Bill” Galloway, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Clearwater, Fla., on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.A memorial service was held in Clearwater.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was born in Fayette on Feb. 21, 1929, to Gladys Meherg Galloway. His father, Uly Galloway, passed away when he was an infant. Bill grew up in Fayette during the Great Depression and World War II. Despite the circumstances, he had many happy memories with his extended family and friends.
Bill served in the U.S. Army and later graduated from The University of Alabama in 1954 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career at Greiner Engineering and worked in Albany, Georgia, where he met, fell in love with, and married Roberta “Robbie” Jardine (who passed in May 2018). In 1959, the couple moved to Clearwater, Fla., to start a family. Bill dedicated over 40 years of his professional life to Greiner Engineering in Tampa, Fla., where he played a pivotal role in designing drainage systems for projects such as the Tampa International Airport, Epcot Center in Orlando, and the runway for the space shuttle at the Kennedy Space Center. He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, serving as a deacon, chairman of the board of deacons, and most recently, a member of North Dunedin Baptist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 60 years, Robbie.
He is survived by his sons, Bill; son, Jim and his wife, Diana; daughter, Marti and her partner, Bob; and son, Steve and his wife, Kimberly. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Matthew, Addison and Nick.
