March for Jesus

The streets of downtown Fayette were filled with worship music, prayer and a sea of maroon Saturday morning as hundreds gathered for the 28th Annual March for Jesus. Long before the official 9 a.m. start time at the Fayette Depot, residents from churches across Fayette County and surrounding communities had already begun arriving to fellowship and prepare for the annual march.

The 27th annual March for Jesus took place on Saturday, May 17, drawing in a crowd of over 400 participants. Organizer Milborn Savage expressed his excitement over the event’s turnout, noting that this year’s march surpassed expectations.

On Saturday, May 17, community members will gather for the 27th Annual March for Jesus. The March will begin at 9 a.m. at the Fayette Train Depot Museum in downtown Fayette and will conclude with a prayer rally at Fayette First Baptist Church. This year’s theme, inspired by Titus 2:13 — “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ”— sets the tone for a powerful day of praise and fellowship. For early marchers, biscuits will be served at 8:15 a.m., and balloons will be handed out at 8:30 a.m. before the event begins.

Despite a light, misty rain during the start of this year’s event, Organizer Milborn Savage estimated that more than 500 people attended the 25th “March for Jesus” walk and rally held in downtown Fayette on Saturday, May 20. The march began at the Depot Museum and concluded at the Fayette First Methodist Church, where a rally was held for a standing-room only crowd. Before reaching the church, balloons with Bible verses were released to carry a portion of the Word to parts unknown.

Fayette’s 25th “March for Jesus” celebration and prayer rally will be held Saturday, May 20, beginning at the Fayette Depot Museum and concluding at the Fayette First Methodist Church on Temple Avenue. The march and rally has been held in Fayette each year since 1997, with the exception of 2003, and also 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Approximately 500 people participated in the 2022 edition of the “March for Jesus” event, held in the streets of Fayette on Saturday, May 21. Organizer Milborn Savage said this appeared to be one of the biggest crowds that has attended the event. The 24th edition of the Fayette March for Jesus began at the Fayette Depot Museum, where balloons were handed to the participants with Bible verses tied to each one.

Fayette’s 24th “March for Jesus” celebration and prayer rally will be held Saturday, May 21, beginning at the Fayette Depot Museum and concluding at the First Baptist Church on Temple Avenue. The march and rally has been held in Fayette each year since 1997, with the exception of 2003, and also 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Approximately 400 people participated in the “March for Jesus” event, held in the streets of Fayette on Saturday, May 15. Organizer Milborn Savage said that he was thrilled with the turnout for this year’s march, especially since the nation is just beginning to recover from the COVID pandemic. The crowd contained a wide range of ages, from newborn babies being pushed in carriages to Perry Kelley, who will turn 95 on May 30. Kelley walked the entire length of the route in this year’s march.

Fayette’s 23rd “March for Jesus” celebration and prayer rally will be held Saturday, May 15, beginning at the Fayette Depot Museum and concluding at the First Baptist Church/Fayette Civic Center parking lot on Temple Avenue. The march and rally have been held in Fayette each year since 1997, with the exception of 2003, and last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 500 people attended the 22nd annual “March for Jesus” walk and rally held in downtown Fayette on Saturday, May 18. The march began at the Depot Museum and concluded at the parking lot adjacent to the First Baptist Church on Temple Avenue. When the marchers reached the parking lot, balloons with Bible verses were released to carry a portion of the Word to parts unknown.
