Funeral services for Mr. Albert Lamar Wise, age 94, of Fayette, were held Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel. Burial followed at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Wise died Saturday, March 20.

Mr. Wise, affectionately known as GG by his family, was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Louise Wise; his father, Robert Lee Wise; mother, Lou Annie Wise Bobo; stepfather, J. T. Bobo; son-in-law, Tim Whitaker; grandson, Bubba Childress; and infant daughter, Theresa Wise.

Joining the U. S. Navy when he was 16 years old, Mr. Wise served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock in the Pacific during World War II. At the end of the war, he moved to Fayette and married Louise Bobo. He attended The University of Alabama before working at U. S. Steel in Birmingham. During this time, he also served in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve. Later he worked with the Alabama Highway Department and several private land and surveying companies.

GG constantly bragged about his “wonderful family”. He was well loved and set a remarkable example for toughness and overcoming obstacles.

GG is survived by his daughters, Barbara Childress (Jerry) of Fayette, Peggy Whitaker of Fayette, Billie Jo Sanders (Jimmy) of Montgomery and Kathy Volker (Bill) of Flower Mound, Texas; sons, Al Wise (Laney) of Columbus, Miss., and Bob Wise (Charlotte) of Vance; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

GG’s grandsons served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Fred Yerby and the staff and residents at Morningview.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (Citizens Bank, 100 Temple Avenue South, Fayette, AL 35555).;
