Hubbertville’s Hunter Rochester brings down a Marion County ball carrier during the Lions’ 50-19 region victory over the Red Raiders Friday night in Guin.
Traveling to Guin on Friday night, the Lions met up with the Marion County Red Raiders. Winning the coin toss and electing to receive, the Lion offense wasted little time putting the first points on the board. The opening kick by Griffin Pyron sailed out of bounds, setting quarterback Blaize Wakefield and the offense up at the 35-yard line. First down brought Gavin Hubbert with the handoff for a 23-yard gain, moving the ball across midfield. Sticking with Hubbert in the running game, the Lions quickly advanced to the 33-yard line. Hubbert then took the handoff around the right side untouched into the end zone with 10:41 showing on the game clock. The 2-point conversion was successful, with Kane Rushing taking the ball across the goal line. Hutch Miles’ kick was recovered by Hankins Miles, setting the Red Raiders up at midfield. The Lion defense stood strong, leaving the Red Raiders facing third-and-11. With the snap, Jaxon Seals’ pass was intercepted by Hunter Rochester, who returned it deep to the 15-yard line. Rochester carried for 3 yards on first down before Wakefield connected with him on a passing route for the score. The 2-point conversion was denied, leaving the score 14-0 with 8:46 left in the first quarter.
