The 56th annual Fayette Arts Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fayette Civic Center and Art Museum, 530 Temple Ave. N. One of the longest-running arts festivals in Alabama, the event will feature artists and craftspeople from across the region, food vendors, children’s activities and special events celebrating Fayette’s artistic heritage. The festival will be held indoors and outdoors, rain or shine. New to this year’s festival will be a book signing with author Irene Latham, whose children’s book, “The Whimsical World of Lois Wilson: Transforming Trash into Art,” tells the story of Fayette artist Lois Wilson. Latham will sell and sign copies of the book for $10. Following the festival’s awards presentation, the documentary “Treasures from the Rubble” by Alexandria Branyon will be shown in the Civic Center auditorium. The documentary explores the life and work of Wilson, who helped Jack Black establish the Fayette Art Museum by donating pieces from her art collection as well as works she created.
