Hubbertville won the 1A State Championship
The final out unleashed a celebration years in the making.
Players sprinted toward the mound. Gloves flew into the air. Fans rose from the stands inside Jacksonville State University’s Rudy Abbott Field, cheering as Hubbertville players piled together in celebration.
For the first time in school history, the Lions were baseball state champions.
Hubbertville defeated Fayetteville in the AHSAA Class 1A State Championship Series on May 21, 2026, completing a postseason run that will forever hold a place in Fayette County sports history.
The road to the title was not easy.
Over the course of five playoff series, the Lions survived elimination games, extra innings, momentum swings and mounting pressure. Each round demanded something different from Hubbertville, but every time the challenge increased, the Lions responded.
