KATHY LEIGH THOMAS ROBY
Funeral services for Mrs. Kathy Leigh Thomas Roby, age 65 of Hubbertville, were held Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 3 p.m. from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Whites Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery. She passed away on Thursday, March 27, surrounded by her family in the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
Kathy was born in Birmingham on Feb. 1, 1960, to Donald Herbert and Betty Lou Wright Thomas. She was a 1978 graduate of Ensley High School and attended New River Baptist Church.
Kathy was known as the “Lunchroom Lady” at Hubbertville School for over 20 years. In her early years at Hub, she worked as a substitute bus driver and lunchroom assistant. From 2006 till 2019 she served as the Child Nutrition Manager until her retirement. Kathy loved her job and the children she served daily; she knew every child’s name and lunch number. She was also known as “Kathy Go” since she enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. She was well known for her parties and backyard barbecues where she made sure everyone had something to eat. She had a kind and serving heart, and spent countless hours serving her family, community and school. Her favorite job and title was “Nana” she loved her grandchildren and her family with all her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda McGraw; brother, Bobby Thomas; and her stepmother, Merlene Thomas.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Curtis Roby; sons, Nathan and his wife, Sheena and Chris and his wife, Molly; her four grandchildren, Carlie, Hollie, Bentley and Stevie; her sister, Sandy Garcia (Noe); godson, Tony Garrard (Joann); mother-in-law, Mary Louise Roby; sister-in-law, Denise Harris; brother-in-law, John McGraw (Jean); and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and close friends.
