He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jo Ann Cagle Stewart; brothers, James, Billy, Robert and Charles Stewart.
Mr. Henry was born Jan. 30, 1940 to the late Frank Stewart and Annie Stewart Evans. He attended Glen Allen School till it burned, later transferring to Hubbertville High School, where he graduated in 1958. He worked most of his life for the Drummonds Coal Mines and retired after 27 years.
As a well-known and respected man in the community, he has served as Glen Allen Fire Chief, worked with Glen Allen water board, owned and operated Stewart’s Pawn Shop, but most of all, he had a great passion for his church. He served as a faithful, dedicated member of the Glen Allen United Methodist Church for 42 years. Known to the miners as John, most knew him as Henry, though many lovingly called him “Papa”. There was never a question of his love or commitment to anyone that knew him. As a Christian, Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother and Friend, this man had a heart that was full of love. Though not a man of many words, his wit, smile, love, kindness, and witness for Christ, will make a lasting impression on the lives of so many.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Lynda Wilges Stewart; son, Tommy Stewart; daughter, Karen Stewart; granddaughters, Amber Isham (Joel), Mallory Tice (Oliver); great- grandchildren, Jayden Stewart and Olivia Tice; mother-in-law, Becky Rhodes; three step-children, Allen Carter, Elesa Henson, and David Stricklin (Tori); ten step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joe, Truman, and Jerry Stewart (Shirley); four sisters, Bobbie Mullins (Bob), Betty Sue Nix (Charles), Louise Aldridge, and Mary Gilbert (Billy); and a host of other family and friends.
