Accident on Highway 43


Pictured is a 2023 GMC Sierra that was involved in an accident on Highway 43.

A 2023 GMC Sierra, driven by Kelvin Wesley James of Fayette, came to rest on its side after being involved in a collision with a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Tony Wayne Moore of Vernon. The accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 32 and Highway 171/ 43 North, just south of Walmart. No other details of the accident are available.

Scary accident - no injuries

An accident, occurring on Friday, June 10 at approximately 9:05 a.m., looked really bad but fortunately, the occupants of the vehicles were uninjured. The accident happened on Highway 43 North, between the intersections of 19th St. NW and 20th St. NW. According to the police report, a 2007 GMC Envoy van, driven by Clara A. Gilliam of Bankston, was entering the roadway from the parking lot of a nearby business and struck a 2017 Honda Accord, driven by Cheryl Denise Terrell of Guin, causing the Accord to flip upside down.

Accident severely injures Fayette Co. resident

A one-vehicle accident on County Road 12 near Concord Baptist Church at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Friday, June 3 severely injured Daniel Smith, age 76, of Bankston. Smith was traveling west with a load of lumber for Lawrence Farm and Lumber when the truck he was driving left the roadway and overturned, scattering the lumber along the roadside.

Accident results in death

A single vehicle accident, that occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20 in Fayette County on Highway 107 near the four-mile marker, claimed the life of the driver of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree before catching on fire. After initially releasing an identity based on the vehicle’s identification, the Alabama State Troopers now say a positive identification of the deceased is pending the result of forensic tests. Fayette County Coroner Tim Kimbrell said the driver of the vehicle apparently died upon impact.

One vehicle accident results in minor injuries


Shown is the vehicle that overturned near Walmart in a one-vehicle accident on March 7.

Ashley Cooper of Fayette received only minor injuries when the 2002 Ford Explorer she was driving overturned in a ditch near Walmart during a one-vehicle accident on March 7. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Cooper was transported by ambulance following the accident for a medical observation.

Accident causes minor injuries

An accident occurring at approximately noon on Thursday, Jan 6 on 2nd Ave. NE in Fayette fortunately caused only minor injuries to the occupants of the vehicles. The accident occurred between a 2006 Ford Focus, driven by Ruby Gann Fester of Fayette, and a 2004 Toyota Camry, driven by Kayla Denise Hosmer of Berry.

Two vehicle accident claims life


A two-vehicle accident on Aug. 25 claimed the life of a Fayette County resident.

A two-vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 10:18 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25 claimed the life of a Bankston woman. Gwen “Judy” Halbrook, 79, was killed when the 2005 Hyundai Sonata she was driving collided with a 2010 Dodge Ram that crossed the centerline and came into her lane of travel. The Ram was driven by Daniel Wilson, 52, of Fayette. Halbrook was pronounced dead at the scene.
