VIRGINIA RUTH PIRKLE

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Ruth Pirkle, age 85 of Fayette, were held Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial was held at Greenview Memorial Gardens in Florence. Gary Bradley, Jr. and Garry Brantley officiated. She died on Friday, Jan. 10, in Birmingham, surrounded by family.
She was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Florence, to William Thomas and Alice Golightly Johnson. Virginia’s early years were spent in the Rhodesville community of Lauderdale County. The family later moved to Florence, where she graduated from Coffee High School in 1957. She married Guerry Andrew Pirkle on Oct. 31, 1957.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Virginia was a long time resident of Fayette and a member of the Fayette Church of Christ. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Known for her kindness, generosity, and quick smile, her family was her pride and joy.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Guerry Andrew Pirkle, and siblings, Tom Johnson, Joyce Jaynes, Doris Caudill and Barbara Letson.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie McCaleb (Tim), and Leigh Ann Osborn (Barry); grandchildren, Nathan McCaleb (Stephanie), Tyler McCaleb (Kelci), Lauren Evans (Blake) and Andrew Osborn; and five great-grandchildren, Easton Evans, Adeline McCaleb, Jamison McCaleb, Austin Evans and Thatcher McCaleb. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Nathan McCaleb, Tyler McCaleb, Andrew Osborn, Joe Cotton, Robert Newton and Ned Nichols.
