RUBY BERNICE HICKMAN FARRIS
Ruby Bernice (Hickman) Farris, age 86 of Winfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, with her family around her.
She was born Feb. 24, 1937, in Tennessee, to Floyd Issac and Mary Margaret (Miles) Hickman. She was a resident of Winfield for most of her life and attended Bobo School. She was a former employee of Winfield Manufacturing and Health-Tex. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed singing, often recalling to her family the times when she would sing at Bobo School for her classmates and teachers and how much she enjoyed this. She also loved singing with her family when they were together. She will be remembered for her talents as a seamstress, often making quilts, clothing and dolls for her children, grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. She was also a talented gardener and loved to share her love of beautiful flowers with her family and others who visited. Anyone who visited her home experienced what a wonderful homemaker and hostess she was, always cooking and entertaining for family, neighbors, and friends. Her favorite thing in life, though, was spending time with her beloved husband of over 70 years, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Johnnie “Jay”, Kenneth, Donald and Freddy Hickman.
Ruby is survived by her husband Jimmy Farris, her children, Jimmie Sue Farris, Daniel “Danny” Farris (Bette), Elizabeth Thomas (Phillip-deceased), Sheila Kerouac (Tommy-deceased), Rhonda Dunavant (Tim), and Loretta Farris; her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mamaw”; and her siblings, Reba Alexander, Paulette Gann, Roger Hickman, Jackie Hollingsworth, and Kay Webster and numerous nieces and nephews.
