Funeral services for Mrs. Judy Perry Nichols, age 68, of Fayette, were held Sunday, Jan. 20, 2018 from Fayette Church of Christ. Burial followed in Fayette Memorial Gardens. Owen Sweatt and Kaleb Hall officiated. Mrs. Nichols died Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Fayette Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Jack and Motie Campbell Perry.
Judy grew up in Fayette. She graduated from Fayette County High School in 1967. She went on to attend Freed-Hardeman and Harding University where she received her Master’s degree in education. She taught at Alabama Christian, Greater Atlanta, and Fayette Elementary School where she spent the majority of her teaching career teaching kindergarten. She then went on to teach at Fayette Middle School and taught home economics, later retiring in the Fayette School System. She married her husband, Julius, on August 10th, 1986 and was married 32 years. They welcomed a son, Carson, and a daughter, Suzanne, and six grandchildren, one of which is on the way. She was a devoted Christian with a gentle and quiet spirit. Her kindness was shown in word and deed, and she touched the lives of everyone she met in a special way. Survivors include her husband, Julius Alton Nichols of Fayette; sons, Carson Perry Nichols (Jennifer) of Fayette, Justin Nichols (Joni) of Tuscaloosa, Adam Nichols of Northport; daughter, Julia Suzanne Stagner (Clint) of Auburn; brother, Jack Perry (Greta) of Fayette; and six grandchildren, Noah Nichols, Oakleigh Nichols, Sara Kate Nichols, Jana Nichols, Ella Grace Nichols, and future baby boy, Britton Stagner. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Campbell, David Edwards, Roger Taylor, Dr. Christopher Truss, Dr. Peter J. Mannon, Dr. Phillips, Elders and Deacons of Fayette Church of Christ. Active pallbearers were Eddy Campbell, Robert Fisher, M. C. Younghance, Dennis Fisher, Eddie Taylor, Larry Campbell, Jimmy Campbell, Burl Fisher, and James Campbell. Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directed.
